Exactly, you can't have villains be similar to real people that the audience knows in real life (or the dark side in all of us). Nah fuck that, that would make people have a meaningful connection to the story and create interesting conflict. It's better to create propaganda than actual fucking art.

If you give villains depth and nuance, your audience might sympathize with them. Since the villains hold verboten thoughts and beliefs (aka wrongthink), this is to be avoided at all costs.
