Film looks shit but I didn’t like the first Gladiator the Spartacus show was way better.

There's a new Beverly Hills Cop out - I haven't seen it - but I wanted to take a second to bitch about Eddie Murphy.

I've never seen an otherwise good actor whose as bad at picking scripts as he is. Nigger's had one genuinely really good movie in 20, probably even 25 years.

I guess Shrek 2 was 20 years ago, but I've always thought that movie was mediocre.

Shrek 2 was the highlight of the franchise. Arguably better than the original, and it has only been downhill since.
Shrek 4 is basically filler more fitting to a series than a movie.
And of course Shrek 3 is the crowning shit jewel. How do you introduce a bunch of Arthurian characters and then just do basically nothing with the idea?

Longlegs - is it woke?

I’m not convinced, ofc I’ve always thought if the movies script and acting are strong - than I don’t totally care. My favorite action movie in the past five years is RRR - from Bollywood - and is kind of a kill whitey movie, but the set pieces are so wild and creative - I have a hard time not being entertained.

That having been said - if Maika Monroe’s character in Longlegs was a Captain Marvel style girlboss, the movie would be worse. She isn’t - she’s kind of a fucking weirdo and you get the vibe her coworkers don’t like her much. Going to Thomas Harris - and most got that vibe from the trailers, so it’s fair. She’s less of a girl boss than Jodie Foster was over 30 years ago - has far more of a Will Graham “there’s something wrong with this person” vibe. Which - Manhunter is my favorite Thomas Harris adaptation, so this is acceptable.

Her mother - you initially think she’s a christfag, because she’s rambling about prayers over the phone - but it turns out she’s Nicolas Cages accomplice and her brain is broken, bc in flashbacks before they meet him she’s normal.

Loved Nic Cage - he’s over the top in way you’d want Nic Cage playing a Satan worshipping serial killer to be. Out of context he’s memey - in context it plays. He does a Looney Toons “that’s all, folks!” At the end.

The boss is black - but the choice feels arbitrary, I guess you could get mad her straight white partner gets murdered by one of Nic Cages servants at the beginning - but if you do, I can’t help you.

Good pace - ending elevated it, I thought - cinematography was great. I’m surprised it’s a hit - but pleasantly so.
