Re: Movie Thread
Robert Eggers is doing a Nosferatu remake. The trailer is out. It looks great.
Probably inadequately German - given the other two were done by Murnau and Herzog, but I'm sure there will be period accurate dialogue.

I’m guessing because Shadow of a Vampire exist they didn’t do this but Willen Dafoe is in the film and not playing Count Orlok is a shame.CuckTurdginson wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:21 pmRobert Eggers is doing a Nosferatu remake. The trailer is out. It looks great.

Robert Eggers is the only millennial filmmaker who consistently makes quality films so I’m looking forward to it.

Most likely also inadequately silent.

Re: Movie Thread
Saw Furiosa - it does pare well with Fury Road, it is also of a similar vibe, so if you didn’t like Fury Road - disliking this is a safe bet.
It is a slower piece - but I thought the action beats were pretty gnarly, and I loved Chris Hemsworth in it. It’s an effective prequel.
Maxs cameo is limited to one shot - frankly I missed it entirely. If there’s something I don’t like - the Imperator preceding Furiosa is her sort of love interest and something about the actor just didn’t work for me. A moot point because Hemsworth feeds him to dogs.
Also saw Lone Star, directed by John Sayles - I like how morally and politically ambiguous it is. Everyone talks about Tarantino dialogue, but I thought this was phenomenally well written. The main character turns out to be half siblings with his love interest, too - as they say, incest is wincest.

I don’t really get hyped for things anymore, but I’m kinda pumped for this one. Also hoping Alien Romulus doesn’t suck hard, it’s got a good director behind it at least.CuckTurdginson wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:21 pmRobert Eggers is doing a Nosferatu remake. The trailer is out. It looks great.

Could go either way. Could be a return to form. Or the franchise reaching the Terminator phase of its life where every new entry desperately tries to relive the glory days of like the first two entries.

I did like Don’t Breathe.
The trailer for Romulus didn’t look bad but that doesn’t say a fuck of a lot.
Every Alien movie is a sort of remake of the 1st one so I’d like to see the new angle. If it sucks im going to pitch the Jason X equivalent for this series.

Re: Movie Thread
It's a strange entry.
One of the really popular aspects of the Mad Max movies is how each of them are self-contained, with nothing carrying over except for Max, his car and his war wounds.
Now suddenly we have this movie that is almost anal in its adherence to Fury Road continuity, and the anchor of the films is reduced to a cameo.
There's also no real point, because we already knew the story of Furiosa being kidnapped. The only question people had was what was the deal between Furiosa and Immortan Joe, but their rivalry is non-existent in this. Immortan Joe is just a plot device that she and Chris Hemsworth's character get involved in.
I do like his performance. He'd work fine as a villain in a new, interesting Mad Max story.
Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be in the cards because Miller's already said that if he makes Mad Max: The Wasteland, it'll be another prequel to Fury Road.
So at this point, you just have to separate the franchise into the Mad Max and Fury Road trilogies I guess
