He did, but people stopped caring because he was only gay, not transgender or non-binary or whatever other stupid shit they've invented nowadays as a blatantly transparent plea for attention. He also further earned their scorn when Simon Pegged wrote nu-Sulu as gay as a 'tribute' to him and he publicly spat in his face, pointing out (correctly in my opinion) that making Sulu gay diminished him as an actor

Meanwhile Shatner just shitposts on /tv/ without a care in the world.
