Top Gun: Maverick - the first Top Gun is good bc it’s goofy and kind of campy, this sucks all that away and we’re left with a self serious affair about Cruises relevance and celebrity. It’s not poorly made and the actions honestly not bad - but the first movie is funner and it proves that filmmakers don’t really get how to hit that Tony Scott tone anymore.
This new one has a Ghostbusters Afterlife vibe and it bugs me.

Movie was produced way before the current Russian kerfuffle. The sequel, if any (hahaha!) will surely feature the Russkies as villains, led by evil Plutin, who has elements inside the American government helping him, put there by treacherous ex-president Blonand Blupf. In the end Plutin will be killed and Blupf arrested and tried in a court led by a transgendered judge, and everybody will clap and cue to credits thanking the CCP for allowing them to film combat scenes in one of their concentration camps.

Vanquish has already given us the quintessential Russian bad guy.
