Not if you pay for Premium, which also allows you to listen offline and not have the playlists play on shuffle. I'm thinking about gifting a year of premium for my mom's Christmas - she listens to music while doing chores from dawn to dusk and became a Spotify convert this year.

If it was a one-time, lifetime payment then I'd do it.

Not on premium. It's ten bucks a month. It's the only subscription I have going on and we'll worth it for me.

I download whatever at high quality at home and listen to it offline at work.
It may not be the best platform per se but it's far more convenient than even piracy.

I either check out some home page recommendations, which at this point are exclusively Death, Black and Thrash Metal for me, check out the "people that like this also like" column and use The Metal Archives tab for similar bands or look what other bands the guys were in.

I check that out for a bit and if it sounds alright I download it in three seconds or so and give the album a thorough spin at work.

According to Spotify, I have checked out over 4300 songs from 615 bands since last December. Again, just on Spotify. You can add a few for Bandcamp.
I sure as shit am getting my money's worth out of it!
I currently have 260 albums downloaded. A few I'll remove from the library but I'll also add a few as well so I'll likely hover around 250 most of the time.

I watch just about no movies, I play only a few games over a long time but I listen to an obscene amount of music!

Part of the reason why I have barely posted in this thread for a while and still haven't gotten around to writing that Metallica post is that I've been busy thoroughly listening through just about every Thrash Metal album worthy of even a remote mention in the years immediately before or after that album.
It's going to be an insane spergpost and I'll open a dedicated thread for it.
I'm blunt but not shallow.

I will say, one advantage of listening to normie radio while driving is hearing songs I've forgotten about. I don't remember every Led Zepp or Rolling Stones tune out there worth hearing. And while I wouldn't deliberately choose a B-list AC/DC track over the ones I prefer, it's fun to crank them up whenever they come on the radio.

So who knows... You're making a pretty good case for a >subscription service even if I absolutely hate >subscription service.

I'm still more likely to pirate an album or buy a used CD and rip it onto my computer. But hey, for casual listening I guess it could be okay.

What I remember about free Pandora was selecting certain songs or artists to listen to... And then being recommended everything except those songs and that artist...

Well, radio here is unlistenable garbage.
The one Rock station incorporated Pop about two years ago so the nominally Rock and Metal station is now Pop Punk mostly on a rotation they don't renew more often than every two months.

If they ever play, say, Heavy Metal, it's Iron Maiden and of them two songs at best.
I apparently have a lot of time to listen to music, so the best channel being one that plays 80% garbage and 20% acceptable songs but even those so frequently they get annoying, radio isn't an option.

Spotify is a shit company. They can eat a dick. It's also likely not worth it for you or even most people.
As most of what I listen to is pretty niche, they don't take great notice. But boy do they love censorship and apply it where ever they do pay attention!

There's a total of six(!) Cannibal Corpse albums they don't list.
The first three, Eaten Back To Life, Butchered At Birth and Tomb Of The Mutilated, making The Bleeding the only Chris Barnes album they have.

And then they don't have Vile, Torture and Evisceration Plague, making them not have the first Corpsegrinder album and having a massive gap between Kill and A Skeletal Domain of eight fucking years when CC is a band known for releasing albums rather rapidly.

Anything the tranny mods could consider fash? Either not on there or crippled. No Panzer Division Marduk, no album cover for Frontschwein.

Yet, I'd still say I get enough value out of the ten bux. But they are very much like Amazon or YouTube. You use them because they are ubiquitous and begrudgingly, not because you think they rule.

Bandcamp is much better in some regards but some bands just don't offer plenty of their albums there or even at all, while they do offer them on Spotify. It's all a big mess.

Absolutely fucking haram!

We have three stations that play rock music here. One is classic rock. The other is also classic rock. The third is "oldies" which used to mean 1950s but has aged up to mostly 60s-80s.... Classic Rock.

So when I'm driving, I just toggle the stations until they're playing a song I can crank up. Mostly they play the same shit over and over. Lot of Queen, ACDC, KISS, one-hit wonders, Journey, Foreigner, Aerosmith, Stones... The oldies station will mix in Genesis, Billy Joel and Elton John. Maybe some Michael Jackson.

I don't really mind that they play the same stuff repeatedly. It's largely music I enjoy, even if Aerosmith is a little normie for me. Every once in a while, they get some Joan Jett on there or some Black Sabbath, Led Zepp (Kashmir or Black Dog preferred) and I can crank the shit out of those.

Oh yeah, and "Should I Stay or Should I Go" gets enough play to make me happy.

SpoilerShow
But none of the radio versions of "Bad Reputation" ever have the live version where she starts dropping "fucks" instead of "damns."
Forgot to mention that it is absolutely required to drive fast when you hear "Highway Star" come on the radio.

The only mild enjoyment I get out of Kraut radio is confirming that I have yet to regret knowing fuckall about our current charts and newcomers.
