Maybe it's something for you if you like those Gundam Build spinoffs, aka you are familiar with Gundam that is mostly high school drama and gay mock battles.

Aerial's kinda dope if you love the overpowered bullshit Gundams from the end of the 00 Gundam timeline, though.

Literally the entire first season is about gay duels to determine who may or may not have the honor of marrying some privileged kuudere. Then there's the eternal back-and-forth on whether or not Gundams are halal or haram, finally there's some terrorism shit at the end.
Then there's a bunch of intriguing and politicking that doesn't really go anywhere until season 2 when that shit starts being actually relevant.

08th and G are definitely in my top five, but what do you think of the other entries in the franchise? IBO was pretty unique and I enjoyed it, had fun with Unicorn as a love letter to UC space magic aside, and 00 is probably my favorite non UC series…just forget the movie exists.

I haven’t seen them all and while some are pretty mediocre the only I remember actually despising was Victory. Oh I do also like Gundam X, the setting alone is brilliant.

I could probably do with less shirtless pretty boys, but I give props for IBO for shaking up the beam supremacy endemic to Gundam. And I think this might be the only Gundam series with railgun weapons (as opposed to using railgun technology for the sole purpose of launching mobile suits and/or cargo)?

00 is basically a better Wings, though my favorite character is limited to spin-offs and video game appearances.

My only real exposure to next gen UC (aka UC0100+) stuff is F91, and I can't really hate any Gundam show that opens up with a nice display of war atrocities.


Though TBF I am aware of Victory by virtue of having played SRW games featuring it, and I have a love-hate relationship with the bad guys who think it's a great idea to have spaceships that can transform into giant motorcycles

SEED is some kind of weird-ass reimagining of the UC era that kept getting more stupid as time went on. Like their weird version of the funnel system which has such a shitty compatibility with people that they had to make short-lived clones of the few people that can actually use this shit.
Or my personal favorite from Destiny: mentally unstable "super" soldiers who go absolutely apeshit if they hear a very common trigger word. Who would've guessed that something like "die/dying" could ever come up during a battle?
Though I guess the spin-off material (Astray, Stargazer) wasn't half bad.

EDIT: Oh, and then there's Reconquista. I guess its Char clone is kinda charming with his buffoonery?

Definitely agree on 00 being a better Wing, and other than the cool 90’s designs and art I don’t like Wing. IBO really did shake up the formula, I remember some staff member said they imagined medieval soldiers going into battle with the melee. The one thing I’m glad that happened was the entire staff opposing the creator’s idea to kill every named character, shit like that is just pointless to me and defeats the purpose of investing in a series.

Seed has things I like but isn’t my favorite by any means, I can definitely acknowledge flaws like the ones you pointed out but when the only attack point someone has is Kira Jesus whatever the fuck I never get a response to my Heero God Mode Yaoi counterpoint. The nostalgia is strong with the toonami generation.

I forgot Narrative was a thing but like that song a lot. Regarding other mecha franchises, I need to watch that recent Full Metal Panic series they did. Also out of nowhere but any thoughts on Blue Gender? It’s not 100% mecha but I got a friend into it recently and he really liked it.

Basically appears to be the Zeon version of The 08th MS Team, where we follow a bunch of Zaku grunts until they get their teeth kicked in by Amuro (or some other Gundam pilot; with all those One Year War spin-offs I lost track of how many Gundams there actually were).
