Google Stadia: how do you do fellow kids edition

Talk about the life consuming, celibacy inducing hobby that is all the rage these days.

Totally forgot posting about it. I would've had a better laugh had I not expected it's swift death anyway.

The funniest thing about it is that it would not even have worked out in the long run if Stadia didn't have the input lag issues (which might get resolved at some point in the future) and was massively successful.

Imagine bearing the load of the electricity, hardware and upkeep cost of it, internet traffic and the insane security measures for not a single cent more profit margin and a guaranteed lower potential customer base (there will always be offline or shitty connection households) than your competitor.
Those just offload the hardware, electricity and almost all the traffic on the customer.
Shit, even Denuvo isn't worth keeping around for all that long and you think you can just stem all that shit?

If streaming games had been the default and some guy came along and invented regular consoles, he'd been made CEO within a month.

There are plenty of times when my internet connection is just dogshit and I can't fix it on my end because the provider is at fault.

You'd lose out on lots of business at all times even if the first world had flawless internet. That's overall the least issue in the grand scheme of things.

Solve the connection issue and you're still buying and running hardware and software for no benefit DRM and convenience won't already give you in an already proven concept.

Soyny will instead, sooner or later, cut the PS Tripple's life support off, tell you to fuck off, and the Soyjacks will defend the decision and tell you that you aren't supposed to play those old and racist gaymes to begin with.
It's really weird that they fixed the CMOS Battery issue with a patch on PS4 after people complained about it but didn't bother to do so on PS3, even though they actually released firmware updates on PS3 after fixing the PS4 issue, and even though it is even worse on PS3 because a dead battery will prevent you from even playing your physical games. It's like they are begging everyone to use custom firmware as soon as possible.

Soyny just want people to stop using the old storefronts and old consoles ASAP so they can shut them down and sell old ps3 games in 4k on PissFive for $60 instead. Or make a new, shittier version of some old franchise you don't have legal access to anymore.

It's not just that they don't care about preserving their old products. They want to actively remove their products from the market after x number of years so that the public forgets about their existence. Maybe they'll bring out something new in that franchise, maybe not. But they don't want their new, shit products to have to compete with old, good products.

Good thing they don't get to have a say in that. PS3 emulation is very good and they will never get rid of all the .iso files.

Sounds very Disney Vault. Sounds very gay.

It's worse than that, actually. They started offering emulated PS1 games (such as Tekken 2) on PS4 and PS5, but not for sale. They want you to own nothing and be happy. You have to pay for their service to get access to the games.

The same Nintendo did. You could just buy their quality ROMs from the shop, but on the Switch everything - including your saves - are tied to a subscription service.

Yeah, in the previous generation (nu 3ds,) you could buy digital copies of Super Metroid, Eartbound, Mario 3, 6 Golden Coins etc. You could download them to your system and theoretically play the games until the death of your system/account.

But now on the Switch, you can only play the small selection of roms nintendo offers, and those only as part of the subscription service. No matter how many months you pay to play Super Metroid, you can NEVER own it for your switch.

The only way to currently play these old games legally is on old original hardware, predownloaded from (now closed) legacy shops or via subscription service IF the game you want to play is available. 6 Golden Coins is a good example, because GB and GBC games have not been brought to Switch yet. So if you want to play Mario Tennis GBC, guess it's piracy time.

Then there are the sega ports to 3ds, such as the M2 port of Streets of Rage, or the Super Hang-On arcade port. These were basically perfect ports. Not only can you not play arcade Super Hang-On on switch, but the emulated version of SoR 2 on switch is a massive pile of wank, with shitloads of added lag and no button remapping options or any extra features. Those M2 ports added a lot of bonus content to the original games, so even hardcore pirates might prefer to pay the $6 for the extras. These ports were largely left on 3ds, and now the storefront is essentially closed, so you can't buy them.

There are other M2 ports of sega games on xbox 360 that were, again, never ported to modern consoles. So if you want to play old sega games like Golden Axe, I hope you like the shit-tastic, laggy emulation from later collections!

And of course, the insult to injury was when Nintendie added Sega Genesis games to its subscription service. Not at the base level, oh no. You have to UPGRADE to play those games!... With barebones emulation and no extras...
