I don't disagree, but the thing is, you can multi-class starting at level 2 and you can have 3 different classes at the same time. Take Human and you don't even incur the xp penalty, unless I looked that up wrong. But you won't incur a penalty regardless if you level them evenly.
Depends. You don't count your Favored Class when it comes to determining if you have a penalty, and humans always treat their class with the highest level as Favored.
They can still get a penalty if you have 3+ classes and one of them is too far behind, whereas a non-human race can just dip a bit into their Favored Class and then level up all their other classes equally with no penalty.

Ah, I see. Well, that still makes Humans easily the best for multi-classing, since you have total freedom to make any class your favored one. And you'll never incur an xp penalty if you only have two classes.

Half-Elves also have the same Favored Class gimmick, though their other bonuses don't really compare to the Humans' extra Feat and Skill Points.
Unless you have some build that exploits Half-Elves counting as Elves, which will probably involve the Arcane Archer prestige class since that one's limited to pointy ears.

And levels in Prestige Classes don't count for XP penalty purposes, although I think there aren't any PCs in NWN 1 as far as I remember.

Also don't forget that the best tool to open trapped doors and chests is the Fireball spell. No kidding, it's just so much easier and cleaner to throw a fireball from far and grab the loot later, no skill checks required.

There are Prestige Classes, though all but one of them (which came with a patch) are part of an expansion pack.
The selection is a bit weird though since some prestige classes from the core book are strangely absent, like Eldritch Knight (a gish class similar to Dragon Disciple without the dragonkin bit), the Archmage (a Wizard who can trade away spell slots in exchange for various buffs and powers) or the Mystic Theurge (a gish class that combines arcane and divine spellcasting shenanigans).
Well, at least they included the Weapon Master. The 3.X core book doesn't really have good prestige class options for Fighters or Barbarians (mostly the Duelist who is gimmicky, and the Dwarven Defender who is limited to dorfs).

Those prestige classes you mentioned became part of the core rules only in 3.5, but NWN 1 is based on the 3.0 ruleset, which has only 5 core PCs originally and they all sucked.

Just more proof manlets are the master race in Dungeons and Fagons. Shorty saves + the best fighter class.

(Unless you count Pathfinder where the prestige class was turned into the all-inclusive Stalwart Defender.)
