Actually a lot of the key people who worked on the N64 games worked on Live & Reloaded and Nuts & Bolts.

The problem is Rare wasn't shit without Nintendo. It's Nintendo that guided them, steered them towards making some of their best products. Microshit, on the other hand, didn't know anything about video games or how to develop them (still don't) and basically just bought their way into the industry. So initially they let the Rare people have a free hand and, when the games Rare made didn't do gangbusters, they started micromanaging them.

Live & Reloaded is good example of how stupid Microsoft is. The director, Chris Seavor, talked about how he wanted to do the sequel to Conker's Bad Fur Day, which they had tentatively titled Conker's Other Bad Day. Microsoft told them to do a remake instead. Now, the point of Conker's Bad Fur Day is that it's like South Park. They're cute cartoon animals but they say some of the most foul mouthed things you've ever heard. So what do Microsoft do, in their infinite wisdom? They tell Rare to censor all the swearing. See Microsoft bought Rare to compete with Nintendo, and the characters are cute cartoon animals. Kids aren't going to buy a game with cute cartoon animals swearing and parents certainly aren't going to buy it for them

So the end result was a remake which was already shitty and unnecessary but was now even more censored than the original, even though the remake was on Xbox with plenty of mature games where the characters say and do worse, and the original was on fucking Nintendo with Mario, Link and the Pokemon
