There is no balance. It's just a slider in the Jap Games Studio with two settings: Massive and Flat. They flip a coin early in the design process whenever a new character concept is being generated.

Dude, it's anime. Age means nothing. Grade schoolers can be thousand year old vampires or demons, grown men can be 14. It's all autism.

Yeah, i was aware of that. It's just that i was used to clear statements about age being either conveniently ignored (like Street Fighter Alpha not stating Sakura's age when they even gave a date of birth for the Characters in Street Fighter II) or given as "brah, she's 10.000 years old". I had never seen them just blantantly say "yeah, she is 12" before Arcana Heart. But then again i don't really think very highly of the japanese or their entertainment, so i probably just didn't notice other instances of that.

The date of birth thing is probably some tradition because Japanese like giving fictional characters birth dates based on some number-related pun.

But the good fighting games give you the age. The one that focus on waifus. Arcana Heart did it, as did Dead or Alive. The latter one had that famous incident where the Western release increased the waifus' ages by about 2 years to make it less weird.

They are drawings.
