It's a known problem that the ai in these racing games is usually trash. I suppose its not wise to let them just race I guess.

You'll usually want some rubber banding. But Autosport is very bad about it, which is a shame because the physics are great.
But getting overtaken and the fucker making Indy Car times in a BMW M3 every time you come even close to him is ridiculous.

A certain amount of rubber banding is fine, but a lot of games just take it way too far.

Programming challenging AIs is for losers.

I assume the big crossover here is autism.

It's amazing how many modern racing gheyemes I research are always-online, DLC-parted-out, Season (p)Ass, microtransactions-stuffed garbage. I haven't played a racing game seriously since xbox 360 era and I wasn't expecting such a fucking ghost town. Seems like I'm genuinely better off buying even older games, rather than taking a chance on some ps4+ era game and HOPING 90% of the fucking content isn't locked behind online-only or pay2win. NFS and Forza both have gatcha gambling.

I remember buying Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix as a kid and being amazed at how much you could unlock. All without paying a penny. Is there any other genre that got as hardcore fucked as racing games? You can still buy complete rpgs, action games, tactics games and shit without gatcha systems, always-online, etc.

Sports games. Those were completely annihilated. I haven't touched a FIFA game in fifteen years or so.
NHL games aren't even getting ported in the first place. Not a single one on Steam.

The more I research various Nu-racing franchises, the more it seems like I'm better-off finding an old copy of Sega Rally Revo.

I haven't played a sports game in ages, aside from Super Dodge Ball or Neo Turf Masters. Feels like that genre died hard with the advent of HD consoles. Once the internet came into game consoles, all those normie genres got shredded by DLC, season passes and later by ruthless DRM and gatcha.

I think they switched their target audiences to the most brain dead of casual gamers.
