Azure Striker Dogevolt 3: Such Sequel, Much Gameplay

This one's a bit hit-and-miss-ish. It has some great gameplay with a nice blend of Copen's and Gunvolt's old gimmicks. You tag enemies from a distance and can then teleport behind them and unsheathe your katana. If you git gud enough you can teleport all over the place like fucking Nightcrawler.
Unfortunately, it still does that thing where it encourages you to use Prevasion to tank hits, only to once again have a final boss you can't tank - and it's even worse here since that final boss is probably the hardest one yet, requiring quick and precise teleporting to avoid the half of the screen that's currently exploding.
The new waifu character is pretty good, if a bit overdesigned. Also finally a character in this franchise with a melee attack that doesn't suck (the isekai sequel to Luminous Avenger did some weird shit with a buzzsaw sword, which wasn't nearly as cool as it sounds).

However, this honestly feels more like another Gunvolt Chronicles spinoff instead of a main entry. It's like decades since the last game, so any supporting characters and plot threads you may have been interested in are just gone.
Also Gunvolt spends most of the game as a doge and a glorified Devil Trigger (which you don't actually need), and the very esoteric conclusion(?) to his story arc looks like they borrowed a lot from Terranigma.
Also there is a secret joke ending that teases a proper follow-up to Gunvolt 2 in the form of a magical girl spinoff. I hope that will one day become a reality.

In a bit of a change of pace, you get two distinct sets of bosses this time around, and the obligatory Mega Man boss rush has been replaced with tag team illusion from previous games.
I have to criticize the diversity of the boss groups, however. One set is entirely male, while the other hand is entirely female. Though I bet there are people on the internet arguing how the littl boy talking about manliness and that sword waifu who looks like both Sailor Saturn and King from Art of Fighting are actually trans.

Loot has gotten some nice streamlining. Instead of finding random parts which you can eventually combine into shit you can equip, you just get shit you can equip. They've even adjusted the algorithm you you'll always get at least one drop you haven't before.
The loot in question comes in the form of memories from older characters, no doubt borrowing a bit from Aria of Sorrow. You get passive and active ones, the latter being kinda sorta like Copen's EX weapons except not nearly as important.

The screen can also feel very busy at times. Not only do you have Dogevolt following you around, but if you're gud enough Lumen (who may or may not also be just a memory, or a fragment of the real deal, or whatever the fuck she's supposed to be in this game) will pop up and start singing a generic idoru song.
Unlike Copen's Lola, Lumen in this game has a massive sprite. Bitch takes up like twice as much space as your character.
And if you're using the wrong active memory, you'll also have some asshole from a previous game cover the entire screen in projectiles for several seconds.

In other news they're next project is apparently a Portrait of Ruin clone with two waifus. Already looks like it might be their best release since the Blaster Master Zero trilogy and Gal*Gun.

ogre battle reborn is not it, they removed a lot of things for the small quality of life changes, they also took away auto battling which is kryptonite for us autistic min maxers. I would of been pissed if I paid for this.

Don't you mean Tactics Ogre Reborn? Ogre Battle is a bit of a different beast.

I think that's the source of mad bum's confusion. This newest ogre game is the snes/ps1/psp tactics ogre. It's actually an hd version of tactics ogre: let us cling together for the PSP. Which I have many feeling about, both positive and negative. But I'm not about to spend $50 on the same game to play it in hd on "modern" consoles.

Tactics Ogre is one of those like FFT that is often lauded with the "best strategy rpg of all time" label. Personally, I'd be more inclined to award that prize to Valkyrie Profile 1 or FFT. But Tactics Ogre is a fun enough game.

Tactics Ogre is literally the proto-FFT. FFT itself comes across as a total conversion mod for Tactics Ogre.
