Started Elden Reddit, and imo it's good.
It's more Gothic/MonHun than DorkSouls; there is so much to explore, kill, unlock and craft that grinding is unnoticeable.

Granted that i never played Sekiro and Dork Souls 2 and 3, but this seems like the first time that From Software updated their visuals, the environment looks like a painting at all times.
As long as you don't look at the sky, that's still a poorly integrated 2d picture like it was in Blood Borne.

The game is huge with different looking areas and different creatures in them (some of them very Lovecraftian

, and so far nothing looks copy-pasted; with Skyrim and Fallout 3 i got that impression after the first 10 minutes.
There's more music than in past Souls, mostly Dark Fantasy/Ambient tunes to set the dreamlike/horror atmosphere.

The initial classes and the ethnicities (real and fantasy based) are the most thematically different i've ever seen in one of these games; for example you can create a white aristocrat dressed like an inquisitor, a ReedLander (aka Asian) samurai, a Viking, an Arab-like warrior (the whining about muh black hairstyle was completely made up; not only you can create a nigger with curly hair, but some outfits make more sense on a dark skinned character), the prophet boss from Darkest Dungeon or a Numen, aka a naked subhuman troglodyte with nothing but a club.
I went with this:

Thinking that i would have started with a weak character, and instead i'm cheesing bosses left and right with the initial astral blade spell.
I don't know if magic is overpowered, or if the combat is easier in general.
For sure you can mount on the horse/goat hybrid and run away if you are in the open and things go south.

Monsters have been Lovecraftian since Demon's Soul.
And the magic bit might just be a feature of the series. I murdered more DS1 bosses by barfing fire into their faces instead of swinging my sword at them.
