Not being able to select multiple units makes the unit management more personal and you'll care more about your units. When you lose your Sonic tank it's like losing a brother.
When passing through the Valley of Humiliation, slaves and dastards, exposing their sores, sob aloud for consolation and sympathy.

The first "good" video game? Quite possibly Danchi Tsuma no Yūwaku. It paved the way for true fun.
