That looks cool. Basically I want that shit but without any supernatural elements, in third-person (or first-person) with ok graphics (aka ps3 or better.)
That's basically Deliverence if they actually deliver what they promised. I have absolutely no idea if this game turns out to be good or shit.
Seems like devs are trying to achieve too much, but who knows.
I wish they go for Warband Anno Domini style realistic balance (e.g. swords can't cut through armor, metal plates deflect everything but blunt force) but I have a strong hunch they go for more casual balance.

I still recommend Darkwood though. I'm pretty early stage in the game, but it feels like the best horror game since Silent Hill 1 or maybe Amnesia. Fighting with a shovel against naked crazy weirdos feels like kinda medieval too. It's officially free until you decide to pay.

Playing around on Hotline Miami 1 rn.

I know 2 is better and all, but the original is just so good.

Pretty much nobody considers HM2 better than 1.

Warband is dope as hell, but the visuals aren't what they could be and it doesn't strike the level of brutality or horror I'd expect from an adult take on violent living.
Wait for few years, maybe they'll eventually release Bannerlord and modding kicks off for that game. There are some gory mods for Warband, but given the shitty nature of how mods are handled in WB, it's better to wait for Bannerlord, where you'll be able to use mods similarly to Bethesda games.

Other than that, I suppose this is kinda niche genre not many developers are interested in.

@AdorableOtter Deliverence will be good (based on devlogs and playable demos I've seen), but the combat is rather unique and kinda clumsy, certainly nothing like For Honor. What didn't look good based off their demos is the impact your hits have on enemies, it feels very flat, like you're slapping them with your fists.
I wish they go for Warband Anno Domini style realistic balance (e.g. swords can't cut through armor, metal plates deflect everything but blunt force) but I have a strong hunch they go for more casual balance.
I can't say for certain how it works, because I haven't played it, but I know for sure they have half-swording aka mordhau for that, and as for using sword normally, I believe you have to attack the exposed parts of their armor or simply find slits between the armor, at the very least, that's how it was advertised.

The game is anything but casual. There is some more about the amor (around 2:30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlK3MURumeE

Also, I am pretty damn sure you could cut armored opponents down in Anno Domini, it just took more time, but it wasn't like they were immune against it. The game's engine certainly isn't capable of anything sophisticated and the combat in Mount & Butter is super simplistic.

Now the xcom 2 expansion works right Ive got to say it really adds a lot to the game. Not worth full price but anywhere between 20-30 feels right.

Fair enough, they have half-swording then, I have basically zero knowledge of medieval fencing, if you can believe that.

It's funny you guys were talking about hotline miami, because that's one of the other few games that accurately combines violence and horror. In fact, I would say it's probably the best example. The simplistic graphics and discopunk 80s shit aside, fights are over fast and the results are grisly and horrifying. So something like that in 3d third-person with decent visuals and a period setting would be ideal for me.

Also yeah, Warband needs a better system for armor. As it stands, a dude in full plate just takes a few more slashes, when really they shouldn't be harmed by any slashes. A mail shirt alone is good enough to ensure near-100% immunity to cuts. Warband has many other elements that don't work right. Thrusts in general do no damage on foot because of the way the game calculates hit damage. Slashing weapons are far and away the best. Two-handed slashing weapons are ideal on foot, but one-handed slashing weapons and lances are ideal from horseback. Spears suck ass on foot again because of how the game calculates damage. Horses have WAY too much health and regenerate between combats. Mods have fixed some of this. Missile weapons do piss-poor damage compared to how much they should actually, historically, do. Mods fixed this by introducing guns and reducing horse health.

As it stands in native, projectile weapons largely a shit except during seiges. Lances OP from horseback, spears a shit on foot. Horses too stronk. Slashing weapons da bess. Swadian Knights OP as fuck. Marmlukes OP as fuck. Sword Sister OP as fuck. Khergits and Vaegirs a shit.

Looks like they're doing some serious research and going for a hardcore realistic combat mechanics. This could turn out be the greatest thing ever but we'll see.

That's more like mod authors were trying to replicate the impact damage from bladed weapons (and also because player character is a super human demi-god). Even if the armor itself isn't penetrated, people inside the armor should still be hurt by things like a sword strike from charging horseback or a full swing polearm/axe strike.
They did a good job at achieving believable weapon/armor balance imo. (except for those laser guided rail guns aka javelins which I had to manually edit an ini file to nerf)
