So is Dusk still the best of the nu-wave retro FPS?
Yes. Play it! Don't be a mega faggot like Voice and actually go with it. It's a lovecraftian experience that starts eerie and goes to the absurd that you wouldn't expect.
If you haven't played Episode 3 you haven't even started.
Alright, I'll get it on the next sale (or for free if I can find a good link). I initially was wary of the game because it seemed to have quite a few large arenas. So I thought maybe it was more nu-doom than it seemed. I'm very tired of gayme journalists calling arena shooters "boomer shooters." True retro doomlikes have limited arenas within larger level design.

Dusk has barely any arenas at all. Most stuff you could just zip past if you wanted to.

I've put a Mega link in the DHI platinum area ages ago. No idea if it's still good but I uploaded it myself, so it's free of spyware.

It's empty, but that's fine. Like I said, I'll pick it up on a sale. I've been playing DOOM and DOOM II again anyway.

Try Boltgun. Exterminatus difficulty starts to feel like Exterminatus difficulty only on Act 3 though (maybe also during the second half of Act 2).

Boltgun looks like it has the very arena design problem I bitched about in posts above. The same issue that plagues nu-Doom.

🌟Impromptu Doom guide🌟

First get GZDoom, Doomrunner and Doom/Doom wads from somewhere.

Next, no matter what you play, make sure you get a gore mod and a custom soundfont. It's a must whatever you play. Build in midi engine sounds like trash.

Then choose or skip a gameplay mod which modifies the game mechanics (weapons and/or monsters)

then a map mod which is... just a map

or a total conversion which is basically a combination of map mod and gameplahy mod, hence possibly incompatible with other gameplay mods

I never liked changing Doom much.

Besides we already have a Doom roguelike.

FPS version DRL is better than the original DRL. DRL is overrated.

Do not listen to Faggot11.
Like i said in posts about the game, if levels with architecture and backtracking + being stuck from time to time in areas with waves of enemies (boss fights included) = Nu-Doom's arena-corridor, then every boomer shooter is the same as Nu-Doom.
Prodeus had that problem - i've only played the first level, and convoluted corridor-arena-convoluted corridor was all it was.
Boltgun's real problem is being too easy - there's too much health, ammo and shields around.
