Re: What are you playing?
Its been years but I remember Witcher 2 having really sluggish combat. Swinging your sword felt like steering a WWI dreadnought.

Re: What are you playing?
Divinity II was kinda fun, though I haven't really played it a lot.
Dragon's Dogma is confusing the shit out of me because it tries to be some kind of Dark Monster Hunter Souls, but doesn't have a fucking default dodge button.
I would say just pick up Mount & Blade Warband and make up your own story. Or do the same with MonHun if you want more epicness.

Striders and Assassins can learn it. Though it takes a bit for it to unlock, which makes it all the more lulzy.AngrySpoonySnob wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2017 4:08 pmDragons dogma does have a roll but its been a while so I dont know what button, might be class restricted also.

Re: What are you playing?
I should mention I played the shit out of Dragon's Dogma. I forgot about that game because I don't consider it a true RPG. It's an amazing game, but it plays more like character action + shadow of the colossus + berserk with some mild monster hunter and RPG elements. Sprinting and jumping around are what I mostly used to avoid attacks.
I don't know why I didn't like Dragon Age. I had at least two save files with different builds and every time I played the game, all I remember is raging and being pissed off.
Warband has fantasy mods I could play, I guess. I was kind of hoping for an actual RPG though.

Fuck you. The Witcher books are older than Song of Ice and Fire (which I'm currently reading, both are quite different, but in both people fuck and die), on top of my head I can't remember any themes I would think are out of place considering the books.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2017 7:52 amI've thought about going back to Witcher 2, but that game pissed me off. I encountered a save file-destroying bug which completely halted all progress in the main fucking story. Also the combat was shit IIRC and the game's idea of "adult" kahntent was game of thrones ripoff edgetard shit. I have a real pet peeve about big, AAA game releases where I need to back my saves up in 15 different files at different states of progress to prevent my entire game from being ruined by the rampant bugginess of today's modern game.
As for the game, give it another try, you're missing out a lot. Witcher 3 might be one of the best modern RPGs, but I'll admit that I like W2 more, because it's not about saving the world cliche, and it's more focused. I don't think it's a superiour game, but a damn good one for sure. The combat is simplistic, but does a good job, the only problem was the abuse of rolls. If you fancy a challenge, play it on Death March, that will keep you busy. There is also a combat rebalance mod from one of the developers, which adds new animations and more depth to it, you might wanna try it. Just don't play it on the highest difficulty though, because it breaks somewhere in the middle of the game.
As for classic RPGs, any reason you're not interested in what Obsidian makes? They've been quite busy lately.
Also, I need to finally get Dragon's Dogma, I was interested in the game for a while. Dragon Age Origins was sadly just very boring to me, I've enjoyed Inquisition so much more, because it just have the characters more space, they were better written and over all, the game was quite enjoyable, despite it also being kinda dull in some ways - combat for example, I still regard as being terrible, but that might be because I'm bad at thinking tactically in RPGs with a party.

Blessed are the shitposters, for they will be called children of the Sperg.

What modern games does Obsidian make? I enjoyed that spy thing, but it was pretty buggy and felt unfinished, just like KotoR II.
I have been thinking about giving witcher 2 another chance. I just get so pissed off when I encounter a save-file-destroying bug or glitch. The combat also didn't impress me much back then.

Re: What are you playing?
Dragon's Dogma was boring to me after only 40 hours. It's super great at first, then I got my ass super randomly handed to me by some rando mobs, then the next level it was nothing but roflstomping everything 24/7.
Two things that caused me to drop it:
- The world a shit. One actual city and the rest is a whole lot of nothing. I see the same shit all the time.
- Screw the leveling system and the combat hard. The actual meat and potatoes of the game feel extremely unfinished. So to min-max I have to class-hop as if I was playing Wizardry, just a lot worse and with less payoff, to get to play a repetitive class with little variation or freedom in game plan. The combat system goes for a MonHun x Dank Souls store brand kinda mishmash yet it almost seems like the monsters aren't made for that kinda game.
In short, it felt like nips going real hard and real bad for a western RPG. Being the autists they are they managed to make it feel really J-like with awkward shit randomly thrown together to seem more western. It's the worst mix of Wizardry/Dank Souls/MonHun I'll ever see.
Dragon Age: Origins (get fucked for having a subtitle in the first game without copyright reasons by the way) just fucking sucks. Played 10 hours of it and regret every single one of them. I wish somebody was actually knowledgeable enough to just tell me upfront that this supposedly great game is nothing but the godawful Troika combat system with shitter writing in bad.
PS: Troika went broke for a reason. Their games are overrated garbage. Before idiots that can't make games with good gameplay mechanics decided to just make walking simulators when they actually wanted to make a movie, there was Troika making role playing games when they actually wanted to write a book.
