I knew it was going to be buggy trash on release because... Name me a western rpg that wasn't on release. The best you can hope for is the game becomes playable with patches later.
They made a patch that is over 40GB in size and makes the game even worse. It isn't just a regular buggy western RPG, even Bugthesda doesn't ban video footage to be released in video reviews.
I bet we'll eventually hear how the development was a massive clusterfuck.
In Razor's video he points out that employees were bitching about how fucked the development is with CD Projekt straight up claiming they were lying until a few months later they admitted they were right. We will hear even more later.
who couldve guessed the overhyped CDPJ would join the greedy dev circle, oh wait anyone with a brain nows it always goes: succesful game > create goodwill > play the image game by playing / paying some youtubers > abuse your overstated rep to have amazing sales on whatever you will create next > create cheap shitty game > ??? > profit
They made exactly one good game (Witcher 2.) The rest are mediocre or highly flawed. It'd be like putting Bugthesda on the same pedestal if they only had Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 3 in their gameography. CDPR haven't made many games.
I'd rather see folks over-praising Arkane or something.
CDPR has this much goodwill because of GOG.
Their games, in keeping with good old eastern European vidya dev tradition, are ambitious jank. The eastern block makes games that are buggy messes that run like shit. Sometimes they strike gold and deliver a cult classic like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or overall okay games like the Metro series. Still janky, of course.
Sometimes, they make charming trash.
What they never make, however, is a game that runs well, isn't bug riddled and is good. Pick two.
I am baffled how people expected a high quality game that sets graphical standards from them. It's like expecting Lada to make a luxury sports car.
Tone is all over the fucking place, my guess is orginally they wanted a gritty look but then later down the pipe they decided to brighten it up, make it colorful and now it looks like a GTA 5 clone.
Almost half of Polygon's review was complaining about "trans representation".

Thankfully, your character’s gender is not tied to your choice of genitals. You can create a dude with a vagina or a lady with a penis, that’s no problem. But because of everything else about how the game handles trans identity, this hardly feels like the progressive step it should be. Rather than just letting you pick your pronouns independently of all your other character creation choices, your pronouns are assigned based on your selection of voice: Pick the “feminine” voice and your pronouns are she/her, and vice versa. (There are no nonbinary pronoun options.) As a trans woman with a voice that many would not describe as “feminine,” this direct linking of gender identity to having a voice that sounds “masculine” or “feminine” feels weirdly essentializing.

I'm sure there's an Anthem situation going on here. They fucked about for years, not settling on the basic gameplay loop and actual development likely didn't start longer than two years ago, if not less.

I think the most amazing thing I've heard about the Anthem development was that they had no idea what Anthem should even be like until a different team made a trailer for them.
