An 82% drop from Fallout 4. Apparently Battlefield 5 has fuck all pre-orders and will flop too, AAA gaming is taking a huge hit this year and I couldn't be happier. Quite frankly this needed to happen years ago.

Western AAA has been dogshit for years now. Japan seems to have got their fingers out of their asses after completely shitting the bed in the 2000s (especially the late 2000s) and Eastern Europe is on a bit of a high but outside of that we are seeing the results of so many devs getting the fuck out of AAA studios and forming their own smaller teams. That shit has been happening since 2009 since you are treated like shit in the industry, it's not just the odd one like Telltale and Team Bondi despite game journos not saying shit about it until it's already a big controversy. You've seen Bioware and Blizzard go to shit since all the good talent left along with many others and along with just straight up fucking greed I feel 2018 has been the huge shock the industry needed. Battlefield 5 is about to flop too with fuck all pre-orders, Bethesda shitting the bed with Fallout 76 so badly that movement is tied to frame rate, Blizzard with that Diablo mobile garbage and Sony fucking up the PS1 classic and censoring weebshit games IN JAPAN (their world headquarters is in California now).

Everyone is hoping for some giant crash but the reality is that we have seen a slow shift away from AAA shit anyway. The rise of PC gaming has proven that, the middle market is now a thing when 10 years ago it simply wasn't and attach rates for consoles are pure fucking shit:

Just look at that shit. The average person with a WiiU bought more games for it than PS4 or Xbone users, and compared to last gen when AAA was at it's peak the attach rates are barely above half of that. You have to go back to the Sega Megadrive to find a console with lower attach rates, even the N64 and PS1 had better software sales.

I think the last AAA game I played and actually enjoyed is :gasp: Dishonored. Stealth mechanics is quite solid/polished, it felt like the true successor of Hitman series. I know nothing about the sequel though. Witcher 3 might be probably great considering so many people praise it but that game looks like a glorified hentai to me.... RPGs don't need animated porn scenes.

I mentioned Dishonored earlier. I feel like that was also one of the last really good AAA games. I never played the second game but something interesting is that the devs from Dishonored made Prey. They are under Bethesda/distributed by them, but it seems to be a separate studio. I would consider them maybe more AA than AAA. I think the people who made Dishonored made Riddick. Not sure though.

Dishonored feels a lot more like Thief than Hitman to me. If you go from Thief 3 to Dishonored, it's a pretty natural progression.

And New Vegas could qualify as a good AAA game except for the fact it was an Obisidian spin-off and the definition of AA.

The mainstream AAA companies are all shitting the bed. Ubisoft is putting out constant garbage. EA sucks. Capcom keeps fucking over their legacy franchises. Bamco is doing ok for now but they still fuck up plenty and license trash all the time.

Souls games count as AAA now, but they definitely weren't AAA when Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 were just becoming big. From were the armored core devs for a long time before souls.
