I've become highly wary of games whose community touts "expansive lore" as a positive.
Usually it's just mega autism, especially in simple games like Sonic or Mario that shouldn't NEED it.
It's even worse in retarded little meme games like Slender (thanks, SA), or worse yet, Five Nights at Faggie's.

Dork Souls and its clones are asking for this kind of "fan engagement". You can't even find a used condom in these games without getting at least a paragraph worth of cryptic background information (which ideally drops at least one title, name or other kind of proper noun that is used nowhere else).
Fans of those jumpscare meme games on the other hand are trying really hard to justify their "fine taste". Because it's not enough to like spooky-scary games for kids. You have to explain how you need to have a gigabrain to understand the deep metaplot.
