Don't be hard on him. No one told him Necromancers would be Easy Mode. And that Sorceress would be the opposite.
Come to think of it, I've heard Sorcs can get pretty fucked at higher difficulty levels, where enemies would get more and more random elemental resistances and immunities.

First time I had a full skelly necro. He just obliterated them like nothing.

Killed him with the Shapeshifter Druid. I tried first with my summons but he destroys them instantly. 2nd try, I used the thawing potions and went toe to toe in werewolf form. With the thawing potion active, he did way less damage to me. He dealt so little damage I could keep pace using red potions. Fought him at around level 21, so I don't think I was overpowered or anything. I guess I fundamentally didn't understand how much of Duriel's damage is cold damage. I hope this means clearing him with Sorceress is viable.

I don't know any of the rune word combos except TalEth, so I've made a few Stealth armors for some of my characters.

Duriel is less of a skill filter than just a knowledge filter. I guess they wanted to give you that roguelike feeling.

Feels that way. I've now cleared him on Fireball Sorceress and Arctic Blast Druid. Yes, believe it or not, you can actually out-cold Duriel using the Druid icethrower. It was close, however.

Thawing Potion is the key. Without thawing potions, the damage is way too high to heal through. With thawing potions, his damage goes way down. Honestly, the worst thing about him at that point are the random stuns/knockbacks he deals. I don't know any way to gear or skill around those and they are obnoxious as hell.

I haven't tried necro minions against him but every other minion, including mercenaries, dies in seconds. I guess you could feed thawing potions to your merc and see if they live longer but I don't care that much about them.

Necro is the one class I haven't enjoyed playing so far. I made it to around mid act 2 with a Teeth build and then stopped because it wasn't fun. I had Teeth and a Golem. I wasn't struggling but I think I fundamentally don't like Necro play style. I don't want to keep track of floor bodies for corpse explosion or try to run skeleton army.

Summon necro absolutely eats shit on higher difficulties. Your golem will be able to live for a bit but the skeletons eventually get melted quicker than you can cast them.

Jizzard never figured that shit out. Witch Doctor in Diabler 3 was just as useless, if not more.
Haven't had that issue in Grim Dawn.

That's always my biggest paranoia with summoner classes: Do they actually work in the long run?
