What are you playing?

How furry is that game? "Slugcat" sounds like some "Closed Speciest" nonsense, where some furfag invents a furry species with the intend of charging cash for canon-accurate OCs.
It's not furry unless wildlife videos are furry. 99% of gameplay is you climbing on something or being eaten by a predator. Slugcat isn't even the taxonomy of the animal. It's just a cute name someone in the community posted and the devs liked it so much they adopted it. Slugcat is closer to a squirrel or large rodent than a cat.

Had money and coupons to spare so I decided to try out the Legacy of Warthog, to see if it warranted the ridiculous troon boycott. Short answer: no. This is simply one of those cases where the lunatics get all holocausty whenever She Who Shall Not Be Named could potentially be involved, because the game is woke out the ass.
Anything she is associated with is evil incarnate. She could come up with a miracle cure that turns troons into 100% biological (and hot) females, and they'd probably cry that she is planning to turn the queer population into TERFs.
Where shit hits the fan, and where I will likely stop playing is the break of immersion when it comes to a MEDIEVAL EUROPEAN FANTASY SETTING. What's wit all o' dem niggers? I know burgers are wont to have this melting pot mentality where they think it's normal that 50% of their population are a combination of niggers, curry-niggers and sand-niggers, but this is supposed to be the old world, y'know? Is it too hard to program a Wakanda sandbox for yourselves?
Friendly reminder that these people bitched and moaned about Kingdom Come: Deliverance because that game featured period- and region-accurate diversity (aka no jungle bunnies, with the closest thing to non-white people being Cumans or something).

Naturally the melting pot mentally also translated to TV/streaming series, so you get shit like The Witcher or Wheel of Time where you have no real sense of location because even the most remote village in bumfuck novel has perfect racial diversity.

Dredge
I'm picking it up again, because I'm in the mood for some relaxing fishing. I want to 100% the game, which will take some time. I don't even know if the game registers that, so the goal is a bit arbitrary.

To do so I need to catch every fish and anomaly at least once, plus I want to get a trophy version of each, because that's also logged in the encyclopedia.

The anomalies are relatively easy. Depending on your gear, you have a certain percentage chance to catch one. Mine is currently at 5%. Not too bad.
If you find a glowing spot, which aren't all too rare either, you're guaranteed to find one. If one fish has multiple anomalies, which most do, you seem to get the one you didn't already catch or its at least heavily biased towards that.

The trophy ones are just especially large ones. When you get a golden skill marker in the minigame and hit it you catch one.
No clue what the chances for that are. They seem to appear about 5% of the time as well. No idea if it uses the anomaly bonus. But looking at my number of catches, about every 20th seems about right.

The difficult ones will be the fish that only appear at night and the large ones. The large ones tend to have only a few fish per spot and your boat will often be full after four at max anyway.
The enemies at night make shit more difficult as well of course.

You don't need either to play single player games.
You don't need either to play many multiplayer games, too.
The industry doesn't deserve either.

Gotham Knights is done. Except for collectables and post-game grind but fuck that noise.

You'd think the worst enemy would be the teleporting ninja, but it's the motherfucking drone operators.
  • Summons an endless supply of drones (up to 3 at the same time)
  • Drones hit like a truck and are easy to overlook because they're tiny and are at a higher altitude than anyone else
  • You'd think the nerds with their remote-controlled toys would be flimsy, but they're damage sponges and better at dodging your attacks than anyone without an auto-dodge buff
  • Also their final tier also has the auto-dodge buff
  • And they like to use their drones as suicide bombers if you dare to get close to them
The closest to this bullshit I've ever seen in the Arkham games were the martial artists from Origins, and all they do is trigger a back-and-forth counter orgy (which ultimately just ends up keeping you on your toes because these enemies aren't counter-and-forget like the rest).

And weirdly enough the hardest bosses in the game were the Man-Bats, whose arrival has been a given since the beginning.
  • You fight 4 throughout the whole game, with the last 3 being repeatable afaik
  • First one's pretty harmless, basically just some bootleg monhun critter
  • The next 3 have weirdly inflated levels which I've never seen before or since in this game (the mission was for level 25, I had level 28 and they had level 30)
  • Naturally they're damage sponges, even though when I'm usually that overleveled for a mission everything dies in a few hits
  • Also they gain a multi-hit sonic blast attack that comes out fast, has way too many active frames and will take off half your health if you don't GTFO immediately
  • Naturally one of the 3 bullshit fights takes place on a very tiny roof
(There's actually a 5th one in the final dungeon, but that one's apparently the black sheep of the family and goes down like a chump)

Not a bit. That's NPC has no bearing on the story and the game makes zero political statements of any sorts.

Rain World: finished Monk. Approaching the end of Survivor. I've also started Artificer and Gourmand. Gourmand is looking like the next-easiest after Survivor. Fat boy is very strong and the ability to goomba stomp gives you a weapon even when your hands are empty.

I've realized so much of what I enjoy about Rain World is shit it borrows from the stealth genre. Like avoiding conflict rather than trying to fight everything, and knowing when to cut and run vs when to hide. If you try to sprint past a lizard, you usually won't make it. But if you bean it with a rock, often you'll have a second where it's disoriented. Even better if you use a spear to pin it against a wall or the floor. It can still kill you in that position, but not easily. Sometimes, however, the even more successful strategy is to crouch and wait. Enemies usually don't see you right away. If you crouch and don't move, they may not see you at all and decide to leave the map or get into a fight with another animal. In open areas, hiding from lizards works amazingly well, since vultures love to eat lizards and they spawn frequently. Given the choice, even if they see you, a vulture will opt to snag a lizard.

Rain World is a very special game. The difficulty is complete bullshit and about half of the biomes are cock-and-ball torture. But it does deliver on the National Geographic wildlife experience. You properly feel like a small part of a bigger world, and sometimes even watching the behavior of predators after they eat you can be interesting. When a predator grabs you, you're usually not dead right away. The game will act as though you are, but if the slugcat doesn't have x'd eyes then it's only stunned/held. If the predator carrying you gets into a fight with something else and drops you, you can escape. So you're encouraged to observe the behavior of rain world's fauna even after "dying."

Every creature has its unique strengths and weaknesses. Most are superior to the slugcat, but you can still exploit what you know about them to avoid dying. Green lizards can't climb for shit. Blue lizards are the most mobile but have little health. Chameleon lizards are ambush predators and therefore lazy (won't pursue too far.) Dropwigs can be sniped with a single spear. Hive mind lizards are easy to manipulate en masse. Lure the entire hive into one portion of the map and then use a tube to zip to the opposite side. Vultures can't fit into small holes. The more you play (and die,) the more you learn.

Rain World is utterly unconcerned with how much fun you're having. Walk out of the spawn? Get sniped by a blue lizard you had half a second to react to. Dead. Life is cruel. But it is a fun game. Many of my favorite games place a high emphasis on enemy-player-environment interaction, and this is another of those.

I've looked around a video of Rain World because your first post of it reads like made up nonsense if one has no context.

It's not for me, I think. But it seems to have the appeal to some people that proper roguelikes have to me.
