The difference is that the NFT scam relies on crypto. All NFTs operate on Etherium's blockchain.
As a link, by the way, because Eth's blockchain is ridiculously complicated. You could never buy bread with it because the transaction fee so to speak costs more than you'd spend at a bakery anyway.

So you don't buy an image with an NFT. You buy a link to a centralized server hosting the image. The server owner could just change the image to Goatse at any point and now that's what you "own". It's a token and it can mean whatever the vendor of the token wants it to mean.

That's why big Corp fucking love NFTs. It's crypto, but not really.
