Hitler's staunchest critics at the time could not help but admire his gift for oration. There's an excellent interview in The World At War about this. Even when they knew what he was saying was the same old NatSoc rhetoric, his critics who were listening couldn't help but be caught up in the fervor and to wish for a moment that they could believe what he was saying and be swept along on that tide of emotion.

And yeah, he sure pulled off a lot. Got to have good oratory ability - people in the Hitler youth would talk about how they'd pledge their life to him during these speeches. He had a bona fide cult of personality.
