Supposedly today Reddit is going "dark" (its top communities going private for a day) because the company decided to charge for access to their API, and their jewed up rates are allegedly making it impossible for third party apps to operate, and for some reason, "third party apps" is how most people consoom Reddit shit (instead of the official™ Reddit™ app™).

Reddit as a website was always broken af and ugly so it's not surprising that all the phoneposting jannies use a third party app.
