Most of the shittiest animu of the last years are adapated from these light novels, because their writers are degenerate hacks who can shit out their crimes against fiction much faster and cheaper than a mangaka.

I really don't think they're hiding anything by calling them light novels. That tells you exactly what they are, they're 'light' novels, as opposed to 'heavy' War and Peace type 'proper' novels. They're basically pulps except we in the West don't really have pulp fiction any more.
