Maybe the battery was just fucked. I owned a cartridge of Donkey Kong Country 3 that loved wiping the saves once ever blue moon.

It probably isn't the worst, but it's up there.
This game is clearly a joke. Does he not get it? Making fun of a game purposely made dumb isn't funny. For something to be truly so bad it's good, it needs to have been created in earnest.
And that phone camera is not flattering to him at all.

The whole point of the AVGN - especially in the earlier years - is that he's 'dead fucking serious' about crappy games and completely oblivious to how ridiculous he is. Like if Inspector Clouseau had a video game habit.
So the Nerd seeing My Horse Prince and taking it at face value is not conceptually wrong. It's just not executed in a very funny way, because James hasn't had his finger on the pulse of comedy for well over a decade.
