and fussing about the position of my chair, adjusting it to be the perfect distance
from the table. In one of the reports, the examiner wrote that I
stared at the floor the whole time and never spoke or made eye con-
tact, except for one sideways glance.

I'd have to agree with Kugel. He sounds straight up retarded. There's a few things here that could be indicative of autism but generally speaking just sounds like he's really difficult. You've also got to consider that he's somewhat an unreliable narrator - he's relating this stuff to us like thirty/forty years after the fact and it's fair to say there's probably a decent amount of embellishment
