He has a serious following and he knows how to keep a core group of them interested, even when he's super-late. He makes a lot of money for Indiegogo, but even if they decide to push him out, he can find other ways to do things. He's talked about it before on his livestreams, but hasn't yet felt the need to leave.

EVS explains his lateness as a combination of taking his time to do his best work and how running his own business (publishing, printing, shipping, consulting with toy makers, overseeing operations at his warehouse space, and, yes, livestreaming, which is a legit part of his business that keeps his audience engaged) eats up much of his time.

The first part is a matter of opinion, but the second part is relatable to anyone who's ever independently put out a physical media project. I've done it and everything about it is a pain in the ass.

I back Ethan's comics. I don't back the toys because I'm not into toy-collecting, but the comics are cool. EVS has delivered more than the "haters" will admit. At this point, you either accept the lateness or you don't. And if you don't, you no longer back him anyway.

No, but there are nuances to it and someone like Ethan Van Sciver has unique insights into what's happening since he's been in the business for 30 years and is making it work for himself independently today.

Eric July will say that times have changed, too, but he's new to all of this (and yet thinks that he knows everything). He has no wisdom. He's too busy primping his own ego and throwing out motivational phrases ("Be great") to talk about reality.

There's probably a market out there for non-woke comics with pulp settings, sword and sorcery, horror, the good kind of sci-fi and cyberpunk, maybe even western and noir.
Woke and capeshit? Not much.
