Pages of unimportant crap that didn't need to be explained and very little on everything important.
The book is gay, and filled with useless fat.

How much do you want to bet that the "important" stuff in this raw, emotional debut novel is 3 pages long, and the rest is just verbose descriptions of the most mundane shit imaginable, with Benito trying to pass the most minor of inconveniences as a disability?
Why am i always right when it comes to INs and their shit?
I guess i was mostly wrong about this garbage being about Saya No Uta, because that would've been a better read.
If the retard ever read Saya No Uta he would not get it, like he didn't get Tetsuo's premonitions in Akira, or the flashbacks with the dead sister in Grave of the Fireflies.

That amoeba analogy in Akira confused the fuck out of him, and he based almost his entire opinion of the movie on it.
"Huh? Tetsuo is going crazy because he's like an amoeba? That don't make no sense."

And my personal headcanon for this book is that Ian is working at Millie's Video Store because Lauren was a big fan of Milli Vanilli.
And it's a video store because that's just as anachronistic as Milli Vanilli.
And if you curious what the Brians represent, let me tell you that the names of the core Milli Vanilli duo both end with a "b". Coincidence? I think not.

A big mess with too many unanswered questions and even more filler.

As for the ending, he should've killed her and made it look like an accident or at least intentionally let her burn after the crash.
Come on, your protagonist is an unlikable shitbag, make him a proper shitbag then! Have him working dead-end retail and oldness frustration be not his Hell but Limbo or something.

In the end we know nothing about Ian, nothing about his relationship and not a single thing of what is real.
Did she burn to death? Did he save her? Is he alive or dead? Does he work at a video rental? Is he actually at a therapists office?
Nothing!
But it's so nice that Bennet the Fag got to ramble on about Star Wars and copy Clerks like the utter hack he is.

That first bit was my theory. It just makes more sense.
The truth is just dumb. He's like stuck in purgatory because he survived a car crash (caused by his gf distracting him by turning into a banshee)? Sure, there's survivor's guilt, but that's not what I'm getting out of this.

(Also I doubt the "fix" or survivor's guilt is "It would have been better for you to die after all!")

All I got out of that was that Ian's in purgatory because he failed to save Lauren. So he finally figures out he has to put her ahead of himself and that improves his spiritual journey or something.

He saves her, still dies, accepts that she left him and is happy for her, but still has some shit of his own to work out.

I think.

No idea about anything else in this book. No idea why anyone would write anything so miserable. Why have none of them written an adventure book or something? At least Erod tried to have fun.

I guess one writes what one knows.
I think this was supposed to have some geek charm and some mystery thriller intrigue. I'd doesn't deliver on either and brings both poorly together.

Maybe they're intimidated by the prospect of a sprawling adventure because the believe that they'd have to write a 6+ book saga.

The Inspiration:

In "The Other People on Channel Awesome" thread in 2017, I posted a Bennett YouTube video where he wanders around the wildfire devastated Santa Rosa (his hometown), that has since been taken down. But there's an ebeg video.

And guess what?
There's an actual video rental store!!!
At the 20:13 mark.
It went out of business because of the wildfire.
VIDEO DROID!!!

1. I guess Luke was "real" but what about Stan and the Brians?
2. Did he work at a "Millie's Video Store" in real life or was that just some nightmare job to waste our time?
3. Why did he hate his real life?
4. What was the deal with all the horniness from Lisa (shopping for porn, being bisexual, acting like a slut)?
5. Who the fuck was "Lisa" anyway? His girlfriend was named Lauren and aside from red hair(?) they don't seem especially similar. Lisa was some pornbody sex zombie and Lauren was basically normal.
6. Why is he in the hospital at the end? The ending truly makes zero sense from what I can tell. Beyond being obviously rushed and having no payoff.
Will skip 6 since Pibbs explained it. Now for the rest.

1) Don't know since according to Pibbs, Ian wakes up after saving her is the psychiatrist's office.
2) Same as 1
3) Because he is Spoony. Other than that, Bennett must not have written anything if Pibbs didn't bring it up.
4) I guess that was Ian's fantasy of a perfect woman.
5) Moron was so up his ass that he couldn't remember his girlfriend's name.

I am just trying to fill in the blanks due to how shitty this book is.

I'll do my best to answer these. You need to understand that I may have skipped a detail or two, because I got to where I just skimmed the pages and pages of description and monotonous inner dialogue.

1. Don't know. Besides the original crash and the party, what part of this book is actually taking place?
2 I think so? Before the wreck.
3. He was like Spoony. He was a loser and instead of trying to change his life, he whined and drowned in his own self-pity.
4. Because it was "edgy" and would fuck with people. No other reason.
5. Um... the hot chick from "Weird Science" her only name was Lisa.
6. IS he in limbo? Is it real? Master storyteller Bennett probably thought it would be more intellectual to leave it ambiguous. He was wrong.
