A hatchet is a pretty bad self defense weapon for a lot of reasons. No need to get into them all. He'd be both more legally justified and more intelligent to simply own a loaded firearm. Train how to use it, get a CCW (I believe whether or not you have one is a matter of public record, so trolls could find out and this would give them pause, maybe) and keep it somewhere you can get to quickly but which isn't very obvious.

DSP may have felt like hot shit stacking those wal-mart hatchets behind every door, but he simply isn't fit enough to wield one effectively to protect himself.
