I finally watched AVGN the Movie. It really was a shitty movie, somewhat surprisingly embarrassing and unfunny.

It's really bad, not even worth pirating.

Saw it some time ago and remember nothing except a distinct feeling that even the CA anniversary movies were a little more "fun" than this trash.

The CA movies were terrible, but at least they didn't take themselves seriously. It's completely amateurish shit, which will always look more sympathetic than some try-hard nonsensical movie by a talentless hack way over his head. See also: Mike Cucklasa's Space Cop for such an example.

I have watched neither and I'm not sure I will. Both (AVGN and Space Cop) look painfully unfunny from the little snippets I've seen.
Space Cop even more so, actually.

The big difference is that the AVGN movie has real actors in it (by which I mean they had acting classes at some point and it was indeed their job to act and they got hired to do it, not saying anything about the quality), and that was incredibly jarring next to James, a complete amateur.
In the CA movies, everyone involved pretty much was an IN, or at least on the same level as them as far as acting talent is concerned. So they come across better because you don't have the benchmark to compare them to, unlike Gaymes who appeared in a film with people who trained to act to some degree. Other INs probably just called it "method acting" and assumed they were already great. I don't think any of them had lessons. At least not a sufficient amount.
I haven't seen Space Cop either tbh. I have no idea where it falls in this comparison.
