Not really, I tried reading the book around the time this came out, tried being the operative word. I do remember her getting torn to shreds since she didn't do her research and never bothered reading the books (Which she still does. She used to do a Game of Thrones watching show with Todd but kept insisting people need to stop asking her to read the books in order to answer the shit she was confused about). She actually apologised for that, admitting she shouldn't have tried to tackle a subject she barely knew.

You'd have to be an idiot to not understand Dune. Even it's shitty movie adaptation made the point clear that spice is a representation of oil and the colonialism of said planet/nation to exploit it. The book also include a healthy does of the noble savage trope because at the time we really had no idea of what Islam was capable of.
