I don't think it's a loss, but it's not profitable. At this point it's around as a way to keep close with the music industry.

Being the only video hosting service that matter is more important to them than having a profitable one. They're also indirectly hampering any potential rivlas by pampering these INs with bonuses that others just don't have the resources for (like infinite free 4k 60 fps hosting space).

And they're honestly trying to create some form of YT union, when the vast majority of them has never even spoken with an actual YT employee before?

Unionising would be the fastest and most hilarious way for most of them to kill their 'careers'. Like we've said, they don't actually work for YouTube. YouTube does not owe them a living. They have nothing to leverage over YouTube if YouTube decides they don't want to pay them or at least not pay them what they think they deserve.
