I sadly can't find any screenshot for it, but there's also a bit in the first book where he explains that his weapon of choice for the final battle is going to be the giant robot Leopardon from Supaidaman - of course chosen solely because he is a fan of the series, not because it is one of the most overpowered giant robots in toku history

I think the movie went with Gundams instead - the original Gundam, of course, not the later ones from the Universal Century timeline that are much better

I also have no idea if these virtual reality robots have strength similar to their source material or not. Dude prefers to summarise battles instead of fleshing them out, with most of the descriptions being used to explain where all the robots, swords and other wonderful references come from

Sure, he started some deadline after which everyone's head would explode, but that's no excuse to stop with the kewl 80s references.
