I was surprised to see that. In October and November, he lost 1,000 and 3,000 subscribers. In December he gained some (3,000) but then January led to the largest loss yet of 5,000. Looking more closely, it seems Jim first started wearing the wig in videos in a video released on January 25. On January 25 and 26 he lost 1,000 subscribers in each of those days. I am not sure if anything in particular prompted the 3,000 lost earlier that month, though... and I can't tell exactly when it was because the daily information only extends back to January 16.
This month has so far had a loss of 5,000 subscribers.
Monthly views are down also. Prior to September of 2020, he got at least 5 million views each month back through March 2018. Starting in September, though, he hasn't cracked 5 million any month and in January got 2.6 million. Obviously that's still a high amount, but it's a noticeable decline. Granted, video views could possibly be the result of a different video schedule or something (I don't know if it's changed), but the fact there's such a noticeable difference in views before September 2020 and after is telling.
These decreases don't seem like a large amount considering how many subscribers he has (916K). But any net loss of subscribers is a sign of loss of popularity, because it means the number of people leaving the channel outpace the number of people joining. That either means you're getting basically no new subscribers or there are so many people leaving that they outpace the new subscribers. Or both.
