Re: What are you listening to?
Punk and new wave music embraced irony and went for shock value often, which rock music doesn't seem to do much anymore. Oingo Boingo were a product of that. In "Psycho Killer" by Talking Heads, David Byrne isn't really confessing to murders. "Kill the Poor" by The Dead Kennedys is psychotic on the surface, but it's written from the point of view of a mega-capitalist that the band despises.
"Little Girls" is similarly ironic. I hear it as a parody of the MANY rock songs of the past in which guys in their 20s and 30s lust over young girls. Chuck Berry had a bunch of those. The Beatles ("She was just 17/ You know what I mean") and the Rolling Stones ("I can see that you're 15 years old/ No, I don't want your ID") had their moments. Then there's Gary Puckett's "Young Girl", which was a huge hit in the 60s, but plays as fucked up today.
Oingo Boingo are making one of THOSE songs here, but emphasizing that the narrator is a creep.

Pedophilia is a traditional boomer interest.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 5:43 amI hear it as a parody of the MANY rock songs of the past in which guys in their 20s and 30s lust over young girls. Irony is how the pedos get you.

It's weird. People used to just not be bothered by this stuff. The scenario of a grown man in love with a teenager was just fine in the mainstream for decades.
I heard this song on the radio A LOT as a kid, though I don't remember seeing the (hilarious) video until YouTube.

Re: What are you listening to?
11 years later still one of the best Melodic Death albums out there, with just the right amount of Prog, Doom, and Post Metal influences to make it their magnum opus. If those two ever were to put out a live show I'll fucking cream my pants. Yes, the name is the most cringe fantasy mumbo jumbo (or just Magog with a prefix and suffix lul).
Second album feels more like an afterthought, but the third from 2023 is a banger as well, effortlessly better than Belakor who at times try too hard, or Wohlfahrt Wolfheart and Insomnium.

Looks like the famous Loli God Requiem is getting competition.

Nothing is too cringe. Gen Z dug up Nu-Metal from the pile of genres best forever forgotten.veris leta facies wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 10:13 amWhat's been in fashion once will come back again. I wonder when the '90s techno boom will make a comeback? Or was techno such a cringe genre that it'll forever remain a relic of the '90s?
I could see it making a comeback in ten years or so when Gen Alpha wants to distance themselves from the nigger-worshipping Zoomers and focus on a nostalgic white man genre instead.
For something less proggy (read: less gay) check out Stortregn.
Their albums are all of very similar quality with the older ones more towards Black Metal.
