Your clarification makes less sense than your original post.
Nintendo could sue him. But they don't. I doubt they even know he exists.
Whereas a guy going around calling himself 'The Angry Nintendo Nerd' is a lot less ambiguous and could imply affiliation with Nintendo directly, which is why it was probably best to change it.

As for NES, that's not trademarked. Only the full name is and a lawsuit would fail spectacularly. It's not like Pat is trying to pass himself off as a Nintendo Entertainment System.
His books using their trademarked logo however is an entirely different story and clearly violates their trademark.
