One of these (Phasma) was hyped and promoted to shit before TFA, and the other two played important side-plot roles to flesh out backstories, characters and motivations. Oh, and also to fuel fan theories.

All of this shit got dropped like a used diaper once it served its purpose, never lived up to its hype, and got resolved in a very "zero fucks given" kind of way.

Do you really think they will go back to the Knights of Ren, who where both mentioned and shown like once in TFA?

(Then again the whole production of these Disney Wars flicks seems to be ass backwards, so maybe the last episode will be all about these fuckers.)

Apparently, JJ Abrams had planned them to play a big part in Kylo's character or sth and he might compensate for their lack of appereance in TLJ by including them in Episode IX.

For some reason I assumed Kylo killed the other Knights in that rainy flashback in TFA.

So if Rey's parents sold her for liquor and were in a Jakku grave, why does her flashback show her screaming at a ship leaving the planet? And why does Obi-Wan say her name when she touches the lightsaber?

Well, I figured the ship wasn't leaving the planet, it was just leaving her there. And as for Obi-Wan... vague Force vision like the ones Anakin had in the prequels? Or, since he is a Force Ghost, maybe he's just giving a friendly nudge?

What isn't insignificant however, is the whole part where she appears in the Bespin lightsaber duel for a moment. What was that all about?

Unless proven otherwise, all of these flashbacks are basically about as relevant and deep as the symbolism in Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Yeah. That's why everybody wants Rian Johnson's head on a pike. (To paraphrase Spoony.) He, Kathleen Kennedy, and her SJW "Story Group" have actually, truly, and completely ruined Star Wars. There's NO WAY to fix this except to say Ep 8 was all one of Finn's fever dreams while he was in medical stasis.

The new trilogy (VII VIII IX) should have been Knights of Ren stuff.

They should have been sci-fi terrorists. With the empire gone it makes no sense that a new empire with a huge fleet can just pop up like that. Having them be like Space ISIS makes more sense, with Snoke seducing people to the dark side by radicalising them on the internet manipulating social outcasts who have the force. It would be more relevant to modern times and having a different type of story with everyone in The Republic paranoid as fuck about who is turning or not could create great conflict.

But instead it's a retread.

They couldn't make them Space ISIS because then they would've demonized the Religion of Peace instead of *white* people.

But still, making them space therrorists would've been a lot better*, and easier to grasp than the current state where it's really hard to tell how long they've been around and how powerful they actually are on a galactic state. I mean, did they pour all their resources into that Starkiller Base and the Fuckhuge Boomerang Ship of Doom, or could they do more of that?

*) I'd even go so far as to say that they should've switched around the dynamic a bit, with a Good Republic (who want to preserve the peaceful status quo) and an Evil Rebellion (who want to go back to the Empire days).

(Though I guess the Extended Universe kinda did that, with the New Republic trying to keep things from blowing up again, while the Empire splintered off into a bunch of warlords with a Star Destroyer or two.)
