Re: Fighting Games
Cool. It's always interesting to see Ultra IV top 8, because there are so many masters of that game. For every boring matchup like bonchan vs fucking dieminion, there's a dope one where some guy is using Gen, Viper, Hugo, Dudley, Makoto or some other specialist character. I saw a really good Bison in one of the capcom cups. I'd never seen him before. He made me actually understand wtf is the point of bison aka how you're supposed to play him in Ultra IV. Seth and Abel are fun in tournaments too, because they either body quickly or get bodied quickly.

There's always a Super Turbo side tournament but barely anyone ever bothers to upload those in good quality.

Re: Fighting Games
Good thing I think super turbo is shit.
I thought it was shit 18 years ago playing it on SNES and I never changed that opinion. I respect what it did for the genre and I won't deny it was an amazing accomplishment, but I don't enjoy playing it at all. Alpha 2 and 3 are everything I WOULD have liked about Super Turbo, only much better.
Super Turbo apparently released in 94. KoF 94 came out same year. 4 years later, we got KoF '98, which was the god-tier of classic fighting games.
Edit: Apparently Alpha 2 came out in '96. A mere two years to completely eclipse ST in every way.
Edit Edit: And Alpha 3 in '98, solidifying '98 as the best year for fighting games. Alpha 3 and KoF '98: Godlike.

Re: Fighting Games
Super Turbo never made it on the SNES afaik. They stopped at Super. Since they had no issues porting Alpha 2 later, I guess they assumed SNES gamers already had enough permutations of SF2.

Oh shit! I must have played an earlier version of the game on snes. Either way, still sucks. I've never enjoyed SF2. I played it years later as part of a collection a few times and still hated it.

Re: Fighting Games
What you've played on the SNES was likely Turbo. I played that too and wasn't the biggest of fans. Turbo is just SF2 but faster. Or rather Championship Edition but faster. Super Turbo is quite different, as dumb as that sounds. It's the penultimate version of SF2 and easily the best one. It even has supers and such.
It's not great or better than KoF, since I'm a SNK fanboy so me saying that should come expected, but as far as Shit Fighter goes it's one of the best.

Re: Fighting Games
Like most older fighting games they haven't aged well at all. Anything in the 8/16 bit era sucks ass.
It really makes collecting a thing like the neo geo pointless.

I also played some version of SF2 on ps2 as part of anniversary collection, I played SF2 on GBA (ironically the version I liked the best) and I played SF2 as part of the capcom classics collection.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 2:55 amWhat you've played on the SNES was likely Turbo. I am pretty sure I played ST on ps2. Not sure about the other versions. I didn't like any of the versions except the GBA one, and I think I only liked that because I used to play a lot of gba games and it was fun to have some variety. I also played the GBA king of fighters game a lot.
I'm just not a fan of SF2. Alpha 2 and 3 do everything I would have wanted from SF2.

Re: Fighting Games
Those are fighting words, faggot. The Neo Geo is more or less 32 bit, technically. But not. But so. It's complicated. Point is, if you wouldn't know you'd assume the Neo Geo is 32 bit and you'd be halfway correct.
Confirmed for fag that never played Garou.

Re: Fighting Games
Here in burgerland Neo Geo was non existent outside of bowling alleys.
I still stand by my point that neo geo sucks because any of those games can be played better on mame, and older fighting games still are shit. Sure theirs metal slug and shit thats cool but no ones playing world heroes 2 today.
