Disturbed and Coal Chamber were the absolute bottom of the barrel when it comes to nu metal, when this was a thing that existed:

Re: What are you listening to?
Doesn't surprise me at all.
As for that time, the ,often mislabled, System of a Down were the best. Not Nu-Metal but Alternative but popular at the same time.
The harmonic vocals of their later years, actual atmosphere and truly unique sound still make them my favourite Alternative band. Really the only one that was ever actually good.
Ive never heard of or known Coalchamber back in the days and can't believe they aren't a more recently parody band. Watching a video is like watching an MDE sketch.

Re: What are you listening to?
I used to love the first album when it came out, because they sounded like a faster and heavier version of Faith No More (i believe that System of a Down were the only band associated with Nu Metal that Mike Patton liked) but Toxicity, the album that made them mainstream famous, turned me off because of how simplistic the drumming was - and not even in a Korn/Deftones/Helmet kind of way that i like, but they were the kind of drums you'd rather expect in a punk band.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 8:34 amAs for that time, the ,often mislabled, System of a Down were the best. Fortunately later on they became like the other, less known System of a Down-like band that i turned to back then after Toxicity:
These are also Armenian fucks.
EDIT Their drummer has an inactive Youtube channel:

Re: What are you listening to?
Drumming is massively underrated. I may start my own project eventually and a drummer is what I stress out about the most. I am a better vocalist than anything else but I could easily get a guitarist but write the riffs myself and even play bass live if I had to.
But drums is a super difficult thing to get and fill.
Bands having absolute stand-out drummers today would be Desaster, Malignant Altar (split-up), Imprecation (drummer died), Crucifier and Grand Belial's Key (same guy, also demo era Morbid Angel), Profanatica and Absu.
If you look up band members on Metal Archives you'll often find the drummer being in the most bands. A good Death Metal drummer is super hard to get by. You basically need a Jazz level skilled drummer that loves the really rough and fast shit more than money.

Speaking of drummers:
Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

It's unbelievable what a fucking poser you are.
Even when finally having anything Japanese and relevant to add, like Nyango Star being a good drummer, you link a much less popular video that has fucking Deathcore in the title.
Unforgivable!
The proper Nyango Star video to post:

I wanted to spice things up a little. You can't just keep using the same Nyango Star performance over and over again.

Your failure is not having a visceral reaction of disgust to "Deathcore". Anything and everything described as such is garbage.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 2:45 pmI wanted to spice things up a little. You can't just keep using the same Nyango Star performance over and over again.

It's just a video title, and I have ascended to a point where such a thing can't trigger me.
