It's a bit like Columbo. Peter Falk is Columbo.
You can absolutely do something like Criminal Intent where Vincent DiNofrio is giving a very Columbo-esque performance but I don't think it would've worked if they just took him and tried to make him the new Columbo.

With Doge it's even more difficult. He wasn't cast for a role, he invented the Nostalgia Critic and it's part of his actual personality.
So say they separated in bad blood. Could Michaud get some other dude playing the NC and would it work? I doubt that.

I just don't see anyone else doing NC besides Doge. There's a reason The Escapist didn't bother reviving Zero Punctuation without Yahtzee even though they Own the IP. Reason being is there is no Zero Punctuation without Yahtzee just like There is no NC without Doge. Only one person thinks somebody else could do NC and that's Linkara. That's because he thinks it's something like Doctor Who or James Bond where different people have their take on a character.
