Into Darkness was atrocious - I don't see what the issue with Beyond is beyond edgelord 'everything is terrible' spergation. Not as huge a reliance on "things you know" as the other movies or Picard, good pace - cast is good.

Justin Lin is a better director than Abrams, but so is everybody. It had a lower budget so there's a whole lot of wandering around on a shitty backwater planet. It had a shitty villain played by a shitty overrated actor in a shitty mask. No Alice Eve, but we get the chick with the gigantic chin from the Mummy remake. It was written by Simon Pegg, who is basically a successful version of Wil Wheaton.

I doubt very much that he believes most of the shit he spouts but there's a variety of reasons why he would continue to spout it regardless. Chief among them being that, as an actor who wants to work, if he claimed there are only two genders or something, he could get cancelled.
