Re: Movie Thread
That's not entirely true. I remember it was a plot point in Godzilla 1984, and also in Godzilla vs Destroyah where Godzilla's nuclear heart begins to meltdown.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 12:48 amGodzilla's radioactivity literally hasn't been a major issue since the first movie and maybe the latest one.
The Japanese are sensitive to the topics of atomic/nuclear/radiation. It seems to wax and wane and we see it in the media. Ever since 2011, they've been super-sensitive again.
I recently watched a video about the flop PS4 Godzilla game. Godzilla was supposed to get powerups from demolishing nuclear reactors, but this had to be cut at the 11th hour and hastily changed.

Having a 100+ ft. tall lizard that can also vomit energy beams was probably considered not "realistic" enoughGuest wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 5:41 amThough why Roland Emmerich, who built his career on scenes of catastrophic destruction, opted to portray the monster as a frightened lizard cowering in fear most of the movie instead of a fire belching engine of destruction I will never know. You'd think scenes of something mowing down city blocks and melting tanks would be right up his alley.
It also had a high during the Showa era. The only Ultraman episode to ever get banned portrayed aliens with authentic radiation burn.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 1:47 pmThe Japanese are sensitive to the topics of atomic/nuclear/radiation. Re: Movie Thread
At first I thought this guy was exaggerating, but once I saw Game of Thrones in the trailer, something was up.
The first part with Lebron is lame, but once he was sent into the 2D world, it seemed a little better as its animated pretty faithfully to the original. Then it really went to shit when it turned into Ready Player One. This guy wasn't joking.
Much like anyone once else, I don't know what to make of it. Wasn't expected, so you didn't really care about it since it wasn't anticipated. In fact, I haven't been hyped for anything in years since maybe Smash 4.
The only good thing I could say about it so far is that hopefully it sparks a return to traditional form.

AKA Live Action Evangelion, but with Godzilla skin.
Somewhat interesting take on the IP, but it was ultimately just Hideaki Anno stroking his own ego for the billionth time in a row.

I forgot that was even a thing. Welp, here's to more forgettable and unwarranted sequels!
