I've never really minded the death of the Confederate flag. At the very least, it's the flag of losers. You want the South to find a point of pride, come up with something better that isnt what 'almost' happened 150 years ago.

It's hilarious that most of the responses to that announcement are touting this as some big victory against racism
1) A lot of proponents of the Confederate flag probably don't see it as a racist symbol. It's the same nonsense as taking Aunt Jemima off the syrup bottle. A lot of people nowadays don't see Aunt Jemima as house mammy cooking up pancakes on the plantation or whatever. They just see a kindly black woman on the syrup bottle. It's memetic mutation.
2) Even amongst the people that do tout it as a racist symbol, taking away their racist symbols, their Confederate flags, their swastikas, their klan hoods, etc doesn't get rid of racism, it just makes the racists that much more difficult to find. At least when you have some wanker going around wearing Klan robes you know what he is and what he stands for

Valid point. If anything, getting rid of the old symbols of racism allows new ones to crop up. In coded language or forms that appear new and more attractive to successive generations. It can grow and spread far wider than if it was just left as it was.

Lol when they remove the coloured people from the product not realizing that they aren't respecting the history behind it, racist or not. They changed Aunt Jemima's image many a years ago, and nobody really gave two shits until now because they found an excuse for it.

What is it going to be called now without the image? Land O Lakes can sort of get away with it, but if it's something like Uncle Ben's and Aunt Jemima with an image, what would it become? Some generic product.
