Fred Dryer was a hotshot NFL player for years, so it's a miracle Hunter turned out as good as it did. Violent, dramatic, with two-part episodes adapted from fucking novels, son. That's the 80s for you!

Richard Dean Anderson was the best part of both the 80s and 90s

I may get those dvds - I kind of like M*A*S*H.

I saw the Sopranos ending when it first aired when I was younger - to this day I'm less bitter about the choice than most. I think its an original way to end a series.
That opening song kicks ass, too - always has.

Apologies for the double post! But I'm interested in recommendations.

What is the best old-school (read: 50's and 60's) Western shows that any of you have seen?

I've seen Deadwood and I like Deadwood - looking for something adjacent to, like, Rawhide.

Wanted Dead or Alive, though Steve McQueen totally steals Michael Keaton's mannerisms.

I really enjoy film and TV from the 60s-80s. I prefer the pace, the attitude, the often more theatrical feel of the productions. They feel grounded and realistic in a way that contemporary entertainment usually can't match(obviously, there are exceptions). You get the sense that the people writing fantasy stories back then are actually thinking "if this were real, how would it work" instead of just indulging themselves or whatever fandom they have.

Recently, I've been watching Blake's 7, which is basically 70s British Farscape(made with the same production team as Doctor Who). It has the budget of a police drama, but dammit, the effort they put into the scripts is just undeniable. They sell those episodes on pure willpower from the actors and writers, especially Paul Darrow as Avon, whose Alan Rickman monotone and consistent shadiness made him a breakout character.

I especially love the ballsy ending where they just kill off the entire crew.

Gunsmoke.
Although the radio version kicks the TV version's ass.
...and still: Spoony did nothing.

I do love me some radio! I'll track it down on youtube.

To be clear: all of this is solid gold - will be having a marathon soon.
