Yeah, that's why all those swing states, some of whom haven't voted Republican since the '80s, voted for Trump. Because you gave them such a good economy

Imagine spending a billion US dollars to be a loser. Could've watched animu and be one for free.

The economy was so shit it had no where to go but up. If he had done nothing the same result would have happened.

Bailing out the banks with QE did nothing, his 9 trillion dollars of spending did fuck all to recover the economy when that should have caused a massive boom if you spend that much and the only reason unemployment was low was because underemployment rose with more people working part time when they wanted full time work.

His entire presidency was a bunch of smoke and mirrors hiding the truth.

Didn't Bush sign a bunch of stimulus packages before he left office? He could just as easily claim he saved the economy.

Yup. He signed TARP around August to September with John McCain (May he burn in hell) actually suspending his campaign at the time to work on that while Obama said fuck ya all you are on your own.

Under-employment is the issue people aren't addressing. All the boomers staying late into their jobs are creating a massive halt on workplace advancement, which combined with outsourcing is ensuring that people don't find jobs doing what they were trained for. The result is an entire generation raised to work at call centers or entry-level service jobs. And they won't even get 40 hours at those jobs, most of them. So have fun trying to pay for a family on 25 hours a week of minimum wage. It's no mystery why gen x and gen y aren't having kids or owning homes.

Nailed it, unless you're coding or working in medical good luck trying to find a decent job in what you studied for.

Don't act like Boomers retiring or dying will magically leave a massive hole of jobs that underachieving Millenials and Gen Xers will suddenly fill and fix all of our problems. While UBI is a stupid solution to the automation problem automation still is a massive issue going forward that will change everything.

This documentary is a little old (seems to be circa 2013), some of the info is wrong like video game budgets (insanely wrong) and it over exaggerates the problem but automation is already changing everything. Blockbuster and video rental stores are dead, record stores are 99% dead and the only ones still around are clinging for life because of Vinyl. Gamestop and video game retail is dying and hell retail in general is being killed by online shopping like Amazon.

This trend will continue but it is not doom and gloom.

The comments are full of dipshit Yang fans who don't get it. New technology means the old jobs go away and new ones take their place. Youtubers and podcasters weren't a fucking thing 10-15 years ago and a huge chunk of INs were left unemployed by the GFC. Look at this list of the most expensive video game budgets:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_m ... to_develop

It peaks around 2010-2013, AAA has been shrinking lately which would mean less jobs right? Automation is effecting gaming too with Turbosquid and Asset Stores like Unity's lowering the cost and effort needed to build all these new assets. Game engines are getting better and are doing more of the grunt work, technological advancement in general is making game dev more cost efficient and yet the games industry hasn't collapsed.

What has happened with kickstarter, digital distribution and what I mentioned above is that games made by smaller teams are more viable and aren't just 2D pixel platformer crap anymore. You didn't need to work for a big studio of 50-100 (or more) people to make a video game which lead to the rise of the indie scene and more recently with crowd funding and the rise of smaller publishers the middle market. Automation is killing some jobs but is creating others.

That podcast with Navil is actually pretty good and he understands the problem better than Yang, he said that automation will "undo the industrial revolution" and with the way things are going he is right. Hundreds of years ago there was no 9-5 job working for some guy, that is relatively recent, most people ran their own farms and were there own boss. With automation you will see more people working as freelancers/small business owners and eventually much less people working 9-5. Like running the farms it will be much less stable and secure than the 9-5 like any business owner goes through and there will be issues going forward with that.

He points out in the clip that the real issue is that our education needs to change to adapt to this. Razorfist actually made a great video a while back explaining why our education system is terrible for making people adaptable and is designed the same way Roman slaves were trained:

What happens when the college graduate is trained in one field and can't find work in it? They go into some service job, they have no idea how to transfer skills they learned to other jobs and they are terrible at adapting to change. It's not necessarily their fault, it's the way our education system is. This system worked fine when the 9-5 was a thing but now the world is changing drastically and our education system needs to change with it but it hasn't.

I think this is the core problem with Millenials, the internet changed fucking everything and they were caught in the middle of the transition. Millenials had the perfect education for the boomer world, the problem is that we no longer live in that world and the education we did have was useless. I don't blame the education system since they couldn't predict the future, no one knew the internet would be as huge as it was, not even people in tech like Bill Gates. I think the Zoomers will handle it better since all they know is a world with the internet, a lot of them (sadly) want to be streamers and youtubers unlike millenials and later Gen Xers who mostly did it because they didn't have a job. But our current education system needs a complete overhaul since many kids will not be prepared to be freelancers or small business owners and adapt to fast change if it doesn't.
