I've been watching a couple of anime recently. Shiki and Seraph of the End. The latter is some shonenshit. No opinion yet. Shiki has a really gay art style but the story itself seems interesting. I really wish the art could have been different. Art more like that found in Mushishi or Uzumaki would have better fit the dark tone. There's a very large disconnect between the way older characters look (they're more realistic) compared to the young people, who are animu as fuck. The story is about a mysterious illness that causes people in a small town to die. It starts out slowly enough that the deaths are attributed to natural causes. Especially since a majority of the victims are older and it's happening during an especially hot summer.

Ryu Fujisaki (who did the mango version of Shiki which the anime is directly based on, not the source novel) has a nice artsyle but early I never got around to reading more than a few volumes of Houshin Engi.

South Korean outsourcing is said to have begun with Golden Bat in 1968. It seemed to be reserved for "lesser" anime like the Voltron shows and the prestige stuff was done all in Japan.

It was the 90s when it started happening a lot and it was really noticeable. These days the foreigners are doing almost all the grunt work, but the Korean studios have actually gotten good. The Philippines, not so much.
