Based pirated TOS instead of giving CBSNiggers money.

You know you have a quality ship interior set if it goes well with 70s porn music.
Why the fuck wouldn't you set your spaceship to proper mood lighting, if you had that capability?

People spends hours nowadays just on character creators. Combined with advances in future LED color lighting, and a vessel with no holodeck, and you have a bunch of bored engineers fucking around all day with the switches to create the perfect hallways.

Yet another reason why TOS was ahead of time.
...and still: Spoony did nothing.

Bought a DVD set of the first TOS season and mainly it's all I've been watching this Christmas. My opinion of the series has only grown and grown, it's already come such a long way since the stiffness of early episodes. I love the sense of professionalism emanating from this crew, the lack of modern non sequitur humor. From the movies and TNG onwards, the crews were essentially depicted as kind of a family more loyal to themselves than the Federation, but here, not only are they dedicated to the rulebook, they also come across like real people who could easily lead their own lives outside of the context of the Enterprise.
It's just a place they happen to work at, with dependable, good colleagues.

There's a reason TOS is held in such high regard, especially around here. TNG has aged very badly in a majority of the episodes. There are some standouts, like data's trial and the Drumhead, as well as Picard's torture scene, but most of the episodes feel too "pat." There are few personality conflicts, a general lack of efficiency, Troi gets indulged too much, the federation is Always Right, Picard is Always Right, Worf is a comedic figure, Data is a meme and Wesley is JUST. Problems are tied up neatly with a bow.

TOS isn't a perfect show, but it's more interesting. Crew don't all like each other. The ship is run on a strict hierarchy and there's no Deanna Troi running around trying to tell everyone what to do. Kirk is quick to shut down any cunt who runs his mouth too much. The episode with the dude who gets godlike powers is one of my favorites from TOS. It's almost like a horror movie. The captain and Spock immediately recognizes the danger and try to figure out how extreme a response is necessary. And there's no ending where everyone learns to get along. The godlike dude quickly develops a godlike ego and needs to be put down.

I remember a "guy develops god powers" episode in TNG as well. Except it was a benevolent god dude and everything worked out in the end IIRC. Even Q never ends up dead, which you'd think would have happened the first time he lost his powers. Kirk wouldn't have hesitated to hand Q over to a starbase prison.

Should've fired Q out of the nearest torpedo hole tbh.

The one time he almost bit the dust was in Soyager, ironically enough.

I recently caught that awful late-era episode where Troi becomes a Commander and tells Data to call her sir. Such cringe.

I somehow manage to always forget about Troi when I haven't watched any TNG for a long time. Maybe it's because I want to forget about that character. This is the best she's ever been in:
